The current heat wave in Maryland makes me thankful to be primarily a studio photographer. I love shooting outside too, but having total control of lighting (and temperature!) in the studio has a lot of advantages, especially when it comes to family portraits. Imagine you’ve spent weeks/months with a date for family pictures on the calendar – schedules have been shuffled and arranged just so, and the day finally comes. If we’re shooting outside, there’s an added stress: what if it rains? What if it’s just not a pretty day? What if it’s so hot that all our makeup is melting off? (Or in the winter, what if it’s so cold that we can’t stop our teeth from chattering?)
Shooting in the studio allows us to control all of that – no worries of weather or temperature, greater flexibility in time of day (outdoor shoots have to happen in early morning or late afternoon for best light), and all-around greater comfort, flexibility and privacy.
I offer two studio options: my studio in Baltimore (for up to 3 people) or a bigger studio in Savage Mill that an accommodate bigger groups or kids that like to have space to run around!
